Volkstanzgruppe Stainz

Norway

Our first journey abroad took place from July 31 to August 15, 1985.

We received an inventation to visit a folk dancing group in the "art nouveau city" of Alesund, Norway. At the local festival groups from England, France, Finland, Vietnam, the host group and our group participated. During the day we all had a lot of performances on public places, nursing homes, hotels etc. The evenings however we spent together.

Each participating group had to arrange a typical evening for their respective country. National food and drinks were served and dances and songs were learned. Naturally our folk dancing group offered Schilcher (typical wine of our region), bread with "Verhackert" (minced bacon) and for coffee some apple strudel. The hosts called „U. L. Ivar Aasen“ owned a hotel where all the participants of the festival were accommodated.

A day trip to the well-known „Geiranger-Fjord“ together with a cruise was also an impressing experience.

After a week we starte our journey back home. In doing so we made a stop at the rural town of Tretten where we were accommodated by the local folk dancing group for free. In return we staged an evening performance. Furthermore we visited the capital of Norway, Oslo, where we explored the "museum peninsula".

After about 45 hours by bus we arrived at home safely and well.
