Volkstanzgruppe Stainz

Sweden

Our journey to Sweden lasted from July 22 to August 4, 1989.

Our target destination was Eksjö in Sweden, where we met up with the local folk dancing group „Eksjö Folksdanslag“.

40 dancers participated in the journey to the north which started on July 22 at midnight.

On the first day we travelled through the former Federal Republic of Germany and the former German Democratic Republic to former West-Berlin. After a short sight-seeing tour we went on to Sassnitz, where we took the ferry to Trelleborg.

Via Gothenburg and Mariestad at the lake of Väner we arrived in Stockholm Sunday evening. There we had a marvelous time till Wednesday.

The „Venice of the North“ was wonderful - everyone wanted to stay longer but on July 26 we continued our journey to Eksjö. This city has about 10,000 inhabitants and is situated in the region of Småland.

After a welcome dinner we were accomodated at the houses of the swedish group members, where we were housed with great cordiality.

On Thursday we arranged an Styrian evening in the common rooms of the host group. On Friday we visited the island of Öland and several glass factories. On the weekend we had performances on the main square, in nursing homes and at a local folk festival.

As with every journey many friendships have developed and therefore the farewell on Monday morning was very hard.

We went on to Copenhagen where we stayed for two days. We visited for example the Tivoli, the mermaid and the Royal Castle of Amalienburg.

On August 2, we arrived after a 12-hour-travel by bus the german city of Leutershausen near Heidelberg, where we stayed for two days due to an invitation of the local singing and dancing group.

Again we arranged a Styrian evening an finally started our journey back home on August 4. Via Stuttgart, Munich and Salzburg we arrived at Stainz in the evening, enriched with many new impressions and experiences.
