Volkstanzgruppe Stainz

Denmark

Against the current "Ab in den Süden" ("Heading south" - title of a popular german summer song) we started our journey in a northward direction to the group "Svendborg Folkedansere" on the island "Fünen" in Denmark. The whole journey lasted from August 19 till August 29, 2003.

We spent the first night in Kassel. We explored the city accurately on our own as a second stay on our way back home was scheduled.

On the next day we went on to Lübeck where we had a guided tour with a friendly guide who looked quite similar to a well-known mountaineer from South Tyrol (photo on the left :-) ).

We had a spontaneous breakpoint in Travemünde where we visited Sand World - a very impressive sculpture park where all the artworks are made of sand.

After that we ferried across the sea to Rødby in Denmark where Copenhagen was our first stop. The capital city has many extraordinary features and left a permanent impression.

We visited all the famous sights in Copenhagen during our sightseeing tour: The Little Mermaid, the dome, the Royal Palace and many more.

As our hosts already waited for us, we went on to the island F ünen. Our meeting point was near Odense in Fraugde. Our denish friends gave us a cordial welcome. As our host families were spread all over the island and also on neighbouring island Langeland, we got the chance to see much of the landscape and many different people. On the second evening we were invited to a remarkable banquet in Svendborg. On that evening the city also celebrated its 750th anniversary which also included gigantic fireworks.

Apart from our performances in shopping centres and in a nursing home one highlight was our performance in Legoland in Billund as we had free access to all attractions in the amusement park.

Our hosts composed a very interesting and diversified programme for our stay. The evenings we spent together always formed a wonderful end of the day with music, an enormous selection of denish specialties and a cordial get-together.

Therefore saying goodbye was very hard for everyone after those wonderful days. We often think back to these days.
